What to check before installation
The quote should account for the dedicated faucet, under sink space, supply connection, storage tank and drain arrangement. Ask whether the refrigerator can be connected if you want filtered water there too.
RO treatment is for the drinking water connection. It does not soften the whole home's water. Feed water quality affects the membrane and may require pretreatment; the installer checks suitability against the manufacturer's requirements.
Filters, service and the written quote
Prefilters, the membrane and postfilter have their own replacement requirements. Follow the manufacturer's schedule and adjust service to water conditions. A falling flow rate or a change in taste should be investigated rather than ignored.
