Water filtration

Whole house water softeners

Salt or no salt, side by side.

A salt softener takes the hard minerals out of your water. A no-salt system changes them so they don't stick to fixtures and glass. Both treat the whole house and fit indoors or outdoors.

  • 32,000 grain salt softener for up to 6 people
  • No-salt option with no electricity and no waste water
  • 15 year tank warranty, 5 years on parts and labor

Put purification ahead of a salt softener

Chlorine in city water slowly breaks down softener resin. A whole house purification system in front of the softener takes the chlorine out and protects it.

If water spots bother you most, choose the salt softener. The no-salt system reduces scale but leaves the minerals in the water.

Which one suits your home

Salt softener: what you get

  • The only way to take the hard minerals out
  • Dishes and shower glass without scale
  • Less soap for showers, dishes and laundry
  • Softer skin and hair, and clothes that last longer

No-salt system: what you get

  • No salt, no electricity and no waste water
  • No drain line, so it fits condos too
  • Allowed in every city
  • Usually costs less to install

Salt softener: the trade-offs

  • Sends about 80 gallons of salt water down the drain every two weeks
  • Needs a bag of salt every month or two
  • Costs more to install where the plumbing needs a new connection
  • Water can feel slippery in the shower

No-salt system: the trade-offs

  • Reduces water spots but doesn't remove the minerals
  • Won't cut your soap use
