Gas control valve and igniter repair
Quick answer
The gas control admits fuel only when the heater's safety conditions are satisfied. A fault code or failed ignition does not by itself prove the valve is bad. Have the complete ignition and safety circuit diagnosed before replacing it.
What can look like a failed control
A pilot or flame sensor fault, interrupted power, a blocked air path or an ignition problem can stop the burner. The heater's diagnostic light and model specific troubleshooting instructions help distinguish the causes.
An igniter produces the spark or heat needed to light the burner. It is a different part from the valve that controls gas flow. Replacing one without testing can leave the original fault in place.
A gas valve is not a general repair kit
A replacement needs the correct fuel type, temperature sensing arrangement and manufacturer approval for the model. Do not adjust gas pressure, bridge safety wiring or attempt to repair the inside of a gas valve.
Installation includes the manufacturer's connection, leak and operating checks. Keep the model number and fault code for the technician and ask for the written repair price before work starts.
When to stop
If you smell gas, leave and call your gas supplier or emergency services from outside. Stop using a heater that overheats, repeatedly fails ignition or has damaged wiring. Do not continue resetting a safety shutdown.
