RV and camper water heater troubleshooting
Quick answer
An RV heater is not a standard household water heater. Identify its manufacturer and model, and use an RV service specialist. QWH's household water heater services do not establish RV or camper repair coverage.
Information an RV technician needs
- The water heater's model and serial number, not only the vehicle make.
- Whether the fault occurs on propane, electric mode or both, where those modes are fitted.
- Any error message, leak and recent winterization or storage history.
- Whether the water system was correctly filled and the bypass valves returned to their operating positions.
Leaks and a heater that will not start
A leaking fitting, relief discharge and damaged tank need different repairs. Do not run a heater that is empty, leaking or has been damaged by freezing. Follow its manual for shutdown and have an RV technician confirm the cause.
Do not bypass a propane safety control or use household wiring and parts as substitutes. For a gas odor, leave the area and contact the appropriate gas or emergency service from a safe location.
Use the exact repair manual
Tank style, combination fuel and RV on demand heaters have different instructions. Obtain the model's manual from the manufacturer and confirm parts and service with an RV specialist before arranging a repair.
